What is dearmouring?
Dearmouring is a form of tantric bodywork that explores tension through focused touch, including around the pelvis and genitals. The name refers to the idea of releasing protective “armour” held in the body.
At Metta-Ji, I include this approach within Transformational Tantric Massage for women and men.
The idea of body armour
You may notice your shoulders rising under stress or your belly tightening when you feel uncertain. In some bodywork traditions, persistent tension is understood as a protective response.
The psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich described muscular armour in the twentieth century. His ideas influenced later approaches such as bioenergetics, and remain part of the background to dearmouring.
Around the pelvis, people may describe tension, numbness or difficulty relaxing. This area can also carry personal associations with pleasure, shame, closeness and boundaries.
The energetic perspective
Some Taoist and tantric approaches understand the genitals as connected with the rest of the body through reflex points and energy pathways. Chinese meridian theory also gives the pelvic area and perineum a place within its energetic model.
These are traditional frameworks rather than established medical explanations. They inform how I understand and approach this work.
What happens in a session?
Dearmouring is offered within a full-body massage. Work can remain external or, if discussed and agreed, include internal touch: vaginally for women or anally for men.
We work slowly, with attention to pressure, breathing and your responses. You might notice warmth, emotion, trembling, laughter, stillness or very little change. There is no required response.
An interactive approach
Unlike a massage in which you mostly rest and receive, this work involves ongoing communication. You tell me whether pressure should remain the same, soften or change.
Your feedback guides the pace and depth. We stay with an area only for as long as you choose.
Clear choices throughout
Before beginning, we discuss exactly what external or internal touch may involve and what you do and don't want. You can revise your choices, pause or stop at any time.
If this approach interests you, an introductory conversation can help you decide whether it suits you now.
Questions about dearmouring
Is it therapy?
It is tantric bodywork, not medical or psychological treatment. If you have pelvic pain or other physical concerns, speak with your GP or a pelvic health physiotherapist first.
Can I attend while in therapy?
Please discuss this with your therapist or doctor first, so you can consider whether it is appropriate and how to process anything the session brings up.
Is it sexual?
The work may involve the genitals, and arousal can occur. My focus is awareness and your experience of your body, within clearly agreed boundaries.
How does it differ from yoni massage?
Yoni massage offers nurturing touch within a full-body massage. Dearmouring focuses more specifically on tension and the reflex-point approach described above, and is offered to women and men.
Does it have to be internal?
No. External-only work is possible. You can change your choice during the session.
Can it feel painful?
Some areas may feel sensitive or intense. You guide the pressure and can ask to soften, change or stop the touch at any time.
